TULSA, Oklahoma – Cherokee Casinos’ employees donated $700 in gift cards to
the Cherokee Elder Care program. The Wal-Mart gift cards were holiday
gifts given to employees by Cherokee Nation Enterprises, which operates
Cherokee Casinos.
“Many of our employees wanted to donate their cards but didn’t know to whom. We felt that the Cherokee Elder Care program was a great place to send them,” said David Stewart, CEO of CNE. “I’m continually amazed at the generosity of CNE employees,” said Ben Stevens, program director of Cherokee Elder Care. “We were very grateful to receive the gift cards and money. We have lots of options for what we can buy for the facility. We’re looking into getting a treadmill or other physical exercise equipment, something safe for our members to use.” CNE employees also donated supplies such as puzzles, games, books, DVDs and a flat screen television to the Cherokee Elder Care center after it opened in spring of 2008. Cherokee Elder Care is a community PACE program (Programs of All-inclusive Care for the Elderly). It is the only one of its kind in the state and the only one nationally sponsored by a Native American tribe. The program currently serves residents who reside in certain zip code areas in Cherokee, Adair, Delaware and Mayes counties.
