Traditional Games Competitions Winners Announced

TAHLEQUAH, OK - Traditional Games Competitions were held in conjunction with the 56th Annual Cherokee National Holiday that took place over Labor Day weekend in Tahlequah.

“I want to thank everyone who came out and took part in the competitions,” said Sharon Dry, event coordinator. “Everyone had a great time.”

In the Blow Gun Competition held west of the Cherokee Nation Complex, Tanner Ridge of Bunch placed first in the youth division. Lucas Vann of Kenwood came in second and third place went to Bryce Kingfisher of Salina.

In the adult Blow Gun Competition, Jess Oosahwe of Bell placed first. Second place was awarded to Jason Eads of Sallisaw and Todd Lewis of Tahlequah came in third.

In the Cherokee Marbles Competition held west of the complex, Cameron and Caleb Kingfisher of Moody took home first place in the youth division. B.J. and Mariah O’Field of Park Hill placed second.

In the adult Cherokee Marbles event, John and Caleb Kingfisher of Moody placed first. Dennis Sixkiller and Mike O’Field of Tahlequah came in second.

In the adult Stickball Game, 66 men took part in the competition from various communities and tribes. In the youth/women’s game 34 players participated.

In the Ladies Draw a Partner Horseshoe Pitch competition, Tina Snell and Karen Cochran placed first. Second place went to Melissa Buck and Earlene Ummerteskee. Sharon Cochran and Brenda Daniels placed third.

Sanford Glass and Jamie Snell placed first in the Men’s Draw a Partner Horseshoe Pitch event. Second place was awarded to Paul Crittenden and Gary Littledave. Michael SevenStar and Michael Cummings came in third.

In the Men’s Bring a Partner Horseshoe Tournament, Terry and Rick Daniels placed first. Second place went to Paul Crittenden and Robert Bark. Johnathan Kingfisher and Kato Rodriguez came in third.

In the Men’s Singles Horseshoe Pitch, Rick Daniels placed first. Sanford Glass took second place and Wesley Bird was awarded third.

“I really enjoyed working with all of the individuals who took part in the Horseshoe Tournament,” said Jody Reese, event coordinator. “I’ve never seen such good contestants. I look forward to seeing everyone come back out and compete at next year’s event.”
