TAHLEQUAH, OK - Football games this fall will include information about
scholarship and vocational education information. The Cherokee Nation
will set up tables at five area football games throughout the season to
provide education information to citizens.
“Education and vocational opportunities lead to self-sufficiency,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “Every Cherokee citizen deserves the opportunity to obtain the skills necessary to have a meaningful job that enables them to support themselves, their family, their community and their Nation. The information booths will help to inform our citizens about financial assistance and training opportunities within the Cherokee Nation that will help to ensure financial stability." “Career Service’s Vocational Education and Training Programs and Education’s Higher Education Programs have come together to inform the public of services available for high school age students and graduates,” said Jan Grogan, Higher Education Manager. “We call it ‘Cherokee Nation Night.’” Cherokee Nation Night will take place this fall from September through November. Employees will be on hand to provide information to citizens until half-time. Booths will be set up on Friday, September 12 in Jay during the Jay/Miami game, on Friday, September 19, in Muldrow during the Stilwell/Muldrow football game, on Friday, September 26, at the Locust Grove/Oolagah game in Locust Grove, on Friday, October 10, in Tahlequah during the Tahlequah/Coweta football game and on Friday, November 7, at the Westville/Keys game in Westville. “This is only the first round of football games to be visited this year,” said Grogan. “This is a great time for citizens to get the information necessary to help further their educational goals.” For more information about Cherokee Nation Night, phone: 918-207-3948 or 918-453-5555. |
