An employee of Tulsa-based Cherokee CRC, an environmental solutions company owned by the Cherokee Nation, Beavers was recognized for his efforts to promote clean air in Indian Country. Presented at the annual National Tribal Air Association conference in Las Vegas, the award recognizes exemplary individual leadership among tribal professionals in the environmental field. Beavers is a citizen of the Cherokee Nation and a graduate of Oklahoma State University. Masayesva, the award’s namesake, was the co-founder and director of the Institute for Tribal Environmental Professionals (ITEP) at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, Ariz. A member of the Hopi Tribe, Masayesva was instrumental in developing ITEP’s air quality programs, including the American Indian Air Quality Training Program and the Tribal Air Monitoring Support Center. After his death in March 2005, ITEP and the EPA/Las Vegas Lab established an environmental education scholarship fund and national award program in Masayesva’s memory. Formed in 2005, Cherokee CRC is a Cherokee Nation tribally-owned professional and environmental service company based in Tulsa, Okla. Its services include consulting and engineering, program and construction management, drilling, field sampling, flight simulation support and laboratory management. Its clientele ranges from the private business sector to the Federal Aviation Administration, the United States Army Corps of Engineers and many others.
