Holiday Volleyball Tournament Winners

TAHLEQUAH, OK — Side Out of Hulbert took home the first place prize at the Cherokee National Holiday Volleyball Tournament over the Labor Day weekend.

“This year was a great year for the volleyball tournament,” said Crystal Washington, event coordinator. “Everything ran very smoothly and everyone had a lot of fun. There was a lot of heart that went into playing and I appreciate the good sportsmanship displayed by all the teams that took part.”

Members of team Side Out include A.J. Jones, Amanda Jones, Roger Robbins, Carolyn Robbins, Carlene Rosebrough, Karen McNutt, Mannie Cota and Ronnie Duncan.

Second place went to the Sun Devils of Okmulgee. Members include Patty Proctor, Lesley Frank, Warren Frank, Keith Humble, Carol Humble, William Proctor and Russell Lowe.

D&C Natives of Locust Grove took home the third place prize. Team members include Rodney Bolin, Whitney Blossom, Jessica Littledave, Stephanie Blossom, Gary Fencer, LaDonna Brown, Justin Maldonado, Leonard Blossom and Anthony Maldonado.

Fourth place was awarded to Top Flite of Gore. Members include Brian Joe, Shelley Yargee, Tiger Jones, Jason Yargee, Teresa Webber, Kyle Littlehead, Mark Marshall, Robert Yargee, Phyllis Yargee and Margie Harjo.

The Most Valuable Player Awards went to Ronnie Duncan of Side Out and Patty Proctor of the Sun Devils.

“Again, I want to thank everyone for coming out and taking part in the volleyball competition. I encourage each of you to come back and play again next year,” said Washington.

Slow-Pitch Softball Tournament Winners

TAHLEQUAH, OK — The Cherokee Nation recently held Slow-Pitch Softball Tournaments in conjunction with the 56th Annual Cherokee National Holiday.

“We had a great turn out this year,” said Neesie Littledave, event coordinator. “There was a lot of competition.”

In the men’s division, the Braves from Stilwell placed first. Second place went to NWA of Coweta. The Spec Warriors from Tulsa placed third and the Dirty Birds from Cherokee, North Carolina, placed fourth.

The Renegades of Stilwell placed first in the women’s division. The second place team was Brighton Lady Seminoles of Brighton, Florida. Lady MVP of Oklahoma and Florida placed third and DC Xtreme of Tahlequah came in third.

“This is the fourth year in a row that the Renegades won the women’s division,” said Littledave. “All of the teams were great and I want to congratulate all the winners and thank all of teams that participated. I look forward to another successful competition next year.”
